Lianna Mullins heads to Purdue after a record-setting season


Oxbridge Academy pitcher Lianna Mullins played like a phenom this year and helped her team to numerous records and a regional championship. The senior right-hander batted .473 with six home runs and 36 RBIs, and also went 17-2 with a 1.43 ERA and 146 strikeouts.

Mullins, who will pitch at Purdue next season, has worked hard on her game, both in the weight room and in practice. She works with renowned pitching coach JoAnn Ferrieri, and she also plays travel softball with a New Jersey-based team.

 

Here's a look at the top softball players in the Palm Beach area

 

First Team

Catcher: Josie Foreman, Oxbridge Academy, Fr. — Batted .462 with six homers and 36 RBIs for the state runner-up ThunderWolves.

Infielder: Lucky Gilman, Oxbridge Academy, Sr. — The ThunderWolves veteran batted .387 with 25 RBIs and finished with a .996 fielding percentage.

Infielder: Becca Ross, Lake Worth Christian, Jr. — Helped anchor the Defenders’ infield, batting .462 with 13 runs and five RBIs.

Infielder: Alyssa Grecz, American Heritage, Jr. — The speedy junior batted .464 with 24 runs and 15 stolen bases.

Infielder: Geneva Alpert, Lake Worth Christian, Sr. — Helped carry the Defenders to the regional finals, batting .490 with 15 runs and 13 RBIs.

Outfielder: Vanesha Jean-Gilles, Trinity Christian Academy, Sr. — The power-hitting senior batted .468 with a team-leading six home runs and 29 RBIs. Also stole 17 bases.

Outfielder: Maggie Foley, Cardinal Newman, Sr. — One of the area’s top hitters, she batted .566 with 15 RBIs, four home runs and 18 stolen bases.

Outfielder: Jena Whipple, American Heritage, 8th — The Stallions’ top hitter this season, she batted .528 with 19 runs and 15 RBIs.

Pitcher: Katelyn Robine, Lake Worth Christian, 8th — Dominant on the mound and at the plate, she went 9-8 with a 2.25 ERA and 78 strikeouts, and also batted .604 with 22 runs.

Pitcher: Jaylin Smith, Glades Day, Jr. — She helped carry the Gators to the state semifinals, finishing 9-9 with a 3.58 ERA and 86 strikeouts.

Pitcher: Caridad Estes, Oxbridge Academy, Fr. — The power-hitting pitcher/first baseman went 9-1 with a 1.58 ERA, and also batted .521 with 10 homers and 45 RBIs.

Utility: Jordan Winters, King’s Academy, So. — A pitcher/infielder for the Lions, she batted a team-leading .462 with 25 RBIs and 32 runs.
